A Typical Session

From the time that we first speak, my goal is to get to know you. Understanding what it is like to "be you" is my primary objective. I need to gather as much information about what it's like to be you as possible in order to formulate a plan of action to help you achieve your goals. You are a unique individual. Your life is unlike anyone else's. You may wish to quit smoking, just like thousands of others. However, you have YOUR reasons. Those thousands of others have thousands of other reasons. It only makes sense that in order to work effectively with you towards achieving YOUR goals, I need to understand completely YOUR motivations. For these reasons, I spend a good amount of time just getting to know you and establishing a good working relationship.

Establishing Rapport
It is of the utmost importance that you feel comfortable being open with me. I make it my business to do whatever it takes to communicate to you that you are in good hands, and that you are going to be experiencing what is known as "an emotionally safe environment." An emotionally safe environment is a setting in which you can be totally honest about what you are feeling, thinking and experiencing without the fear of being ridiculed or criticized. I understand that you have come to me because you need help with something. Therefore, I do my very best to work with you in a way that makes you feel comfortable, safe and secure. Only when you feel this way, can you really begin to get to the heart of the matter. Then the real growth and change can begin to take place.

Deciding on Realistic Goals
Not everyone changes in the same way or at the same pace. Some people like to take the bull by the horns and change over night. Others need more time to adjust to the idea of things being different. Neither way is right or wrong. Everyone is different. The worst thing you could do to yourself is to try to make yourself fit into someone else's idea of how you should live your life. You need to work towards your goals in a way that is most comfortable for YOU. The success of any attempt at making changes is based on how well the plan of action fits the personality and style of the individual. We will work together to select goals that are REALISTIC and ATTAINABLE for you.

What Can You Expect From Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation coupled with highly focused awareness. The key difference between your normal "waking state" and the "hypnotic state" is as follows: When you are in your normal waking state, your mind does it's best to sift through communications and get to the heart of the matter. While in the hypnotic state, whatever is being discussed IS the heart of the matter. Another way to look at it is this: All of us exist as social beings. We relate, respond and react based on the sum total of all of our socially defined roles and relationships. We are husbands, wives, sons, daughters, bosses, employees etc. When we act, we do so in relationship to many other forces and expectations. This is the way our normal, everyday consciousness operates. However, while under hypnosis we are able to let go of the constraints of these contextual relationships and truly "just be." This freedom from the normal strictures of life unlocks a part of our mind that usually only operates behind the scenes. This is what is known as the subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind is that part of your thinking, feeling and experiencing that is out of your normal, every day awareness. The subconscious mind has TREMENDOUS INFLUENCE on your conscious thinking, feeling and behavior. So instead of my communications focusing on your conscious mind, hypnotic communication takes place within the domain of the subconscious mind. Every smoker has "heard," for instance, that smoking causes cancer, but somehow his or her conscious mind figures out a way to keep smoking. Our regular conscious mind has many tricky ways of ignoring very real, very important facts. Under hypnosis, things seem to carry a lot more weight because we are tapping into the very real power of the subconscious mind.

Another point that you need to understand is that you are in FULL CONTROL AT ALL TIMES under hypnosis. Hypnosis does not put you in a vulnerable state. You still have your common sense, your ability to think, and your moral and ethical standards. To illustrate my point, if the office were to go up in flames, you would run out just as quickly as you would if you weren't hypnotized! You will be in FULL CONTROL!!!!!

So What Happens During A Session?
After greeting you at the door, I escort you into my office. You will sit in a comfortable recliner and I will sit at my desk. We will talk about why you came, and all of the details that we both decide are relevant to our work together. At some point, I will ask you if you are ready to get started with the hypnotic portion of our time together, and if you are indeed ready we will begin.

I will suggest to you that you make yourself as comfortable as possible, making any adjustments to your position so that you are free from any discomfort or strain. I will also suggest that you close your eyes allow your mind to wander wherever it wants to go as you hear my voice. I will then proceed to talk to you in a calm, relaxed manner, offering you suggestions about allowing yourself to become as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

At some point later on, I will begin to address the reason why you are here. I will personalize this portion of the session to focus in on those things that you have expressed to me as important to you. The more information you provide me with at the start of the session, the more precisely I can target your subconscious mind with my communications. After a while, I will suggest to you that the time to come out of trance and return to wakeful awareness is approaching. When you finally do return to a wakeful state, we will take some time to discuss anything and everything that we feel is relevant to our work together. At the conclusion of the session we will decide together if and when we should have another session.

Each one-hour session is $200.00 (with follow up sessions $100). Cash, check or credit card all acceptable. Full payment will be required for last minute cancellations. All appointments end one hour after the scheduled starting time regardless of a client's late arrival.
